An April research notice invited people to talk about experiences they understood as synchronicity: moments when separate events seem to form a meaningful pattern. Michael Attwood’s project at the University of Hertfordshire approached the subject through folklore.
The accompanying information sheet identifies the work as an MA dissertation and explains that it examines the beliefs people attach to such experiences. Interviews were planned to last no more than thirty minutes, usually through Microsoft Teams, with the possibility of meeting in person.
That approach gives the project a different emphasis from an experiment trying to predict or produce coincidences. Its material is people’s descriptions and interpretations of events in their lives.
The recruitment notice was shared by the SPR on 28 April. We retain it as part of the 2026 research-news archive; its presence here should not be read as confirmation that recruitment remains open in November. The original information sheet explains the project and its consent arrangements.
