The Society for Psychical Research began 2026 with a major funding announcement: it had received the full £2 million donated by economist Professor Yew-Kwang Ng. Initially intended largely as an estate gift, the money was transferred during his lifetime so research could benefit sooner.
The renamed Yew-Kwang Ng Fund for Survival Research gives the society a larger financial base for investigating the question of consciousness continuing after death. Treasurer Richard Broughton described a new opportunity for more consistent support.
Callum Cooper, who chairs the Survival Research Committee, said procedures would be revised to accommodate more substantial proposals, including programmes spanning several years. The announcement concerns the resources available for future work; it does not announce findings from a completed project.
For readers following mediumship and survival research, the development to watch is which projects receive support and what those projects subsequently publish.
