Brighton programme puts spirit photography’s history in focus

2026 news archive · Reported 30 August 2026 · UKPX added 4 November 2026

A Brighton symposium announced in August put photography and the paranormal at the centre of a day’s discussion. Camera Miracula: An Uncomfortable History was scheduled for 3 September at the University of Brighton’s Grand Parade site.

The SPR notice named Emily Hauver, Mark Pilkington, Annebella Pollen, Beth Saunders and Shannon Taggart as participants. A separate notice advertised a Séance artist talk by Taggart at the Sallis Benney Theatre the evening before.

The programme belongs to a continuing interest in how photographs become records of experiences, objects of interpretation and works of art. Its title and combination of practitioners and historians offered readers a route into that conversation.

These September dates have passed. This entry preserves the August programme announcement; it is not an attendance report or a current event listing.
