Scientific reports · Experimental visual-perception comparison

Flickering light and homogeneous visual stimulation produced different balances of simple and complex imagery. Simple visual effects were especially frequent with flicker.

Method and scope

The study combined button presses, drawings, interviews and questionnaires to compare the frequency and complexity of induced visual experiences.

What to keep in mind

Shared patterns suggest possible common mechanisms but do not prove a single explanation. The work is relevant to unusual perception without assessing a reported apparition.
