A physical model proposes that a prolonged high-energy photon signal recorded in a thundercloud experiment could have originated in ball lightning.

Method and scope

The paper interprets an existing observation using assumptions about charged particles, positron production and a proposed ball-lightning core.

What to keep in mind

A model that can account for an observation does not uniquely identify its source. The assumed internal structure requires further observational tests.
