Endeavour · Historical analysis of monster reports
A history of aquatic-monster imagery compares familiar looped bodies in art with the much rarer appearance of such shapes in eyewitness accounts.
Method and scope
Researchers examine serpentiform images and reports to test a specific prediction about how cultural imagery might influence descriptions.
What to keep in mind
The analysis does not identify an unknown species. An underlying physical stimulus could be an ordinary animal, object or viewing effect.
