Incident: 20 September 2026, Vitacura, Chile. Official release file 2289, reported 21 September; assessed 30 September and published 8 October 2026. Classification: possibly resolved.
The witness described a white triangular-looking object with an initially fluttering or tail-like appearance. The longer recollection included changes in direction; the original video preserves only a few seconds after the object was already farther away. Those are different evidence intervals.
A short original sequence
The eight-page investigation records a WhatsApp copy followed by an original file. Its table gives 4.59 seconds, 138 frames and a local creation time of 19:50:54, slightly earlier than the approximately 19:55 recollection. Later prose refers to 144 frames; UKPX does not claim an independently verified frame count.
The file is published as 2289 and uses that identifier in its analysis, but its header says 2288. It is kept distinct from the separately published Santiago parade-drone case 2288. A typographical inconsistency should not collapse two incidents into one.
Operational and image checks
SEFAA asked the Santiago area control centre to review radar records across the relevant half-hour. No corresponding helicopter or other aircraft was identified near the observation. Intermittent returns discussed elsewhere in the review were regarded as possible spurious echoes; they were not correlated with this photographed object.
The video showed a small, blurred, white-lit point moving at a comparatively regular rate and disappearing behind nearby trees. The report inferred a low local passage, close to roof height, and considered a drone possible. Digital zoom and the limited silhouette prevented a more precise identification.
A qualified result
The formal classification remained possibly resolved. SEFAA’s conclusion favoured a small, slow, locally flying device and found no corresponding disruption to normal aviation operations. That is narrower than a recovered drone with a known operator or an exact surveyed flight path.
UKPX read the complete report and reviewed selected figures, without independently testing the original footage, radar data or weather records. The October release provides the source trail; the incident date remains 20 September and the map gives only a public locality reference.
