San Miguel, August 2026: the red photographic mark and the vehicle-window reflection

Incident: 25 August 2026, San Miguel, Santiago, Chile. SEFAA case 2276; resolved 2 September and published 8 October 2026. Assessment: reflection from the vehicle interior.

The reporter was in traffic on Avenida Santa Rosa and photographed unusual-looking clouds through a closed window. A red-looking light or irregular shape became apparent only when the image was reviewed and enlarged. No duration could be established because the feature had not been noticed directly in the sky.

The image and its setting

The four-page investigation describes a JPEG recorded at 09:13 by Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses 2. Its metadata include a 2629 × 3506 image and a 1/120-second exposure. That is the equipment identified in the file; it should not be replaced with a generic phone-camera description.

The reporter acknowledged the raised window and water droplets on the glass but initially considered the mark too distant to be a reflection. A perceived distance in a flat image is not an independently measured range. SEFAA instead examined which features of the scene belonged outside the vehicle and which were superimposed on the window.

The reflected interior

The report’s enhanced figures mark several shapes consistent with reflected interior elements. One highlighted area appeared to include a console and a source of brightness. SEFAA concluded that the luminous mark was a reflection from inside the cabin, rather than an object beyond the cloud layer.

The geographical inquiry also corrected an ambiguity. Although the initial account named San Joaquín, the investigated viewpoint was assigned to San Miguel. The case therefore uses San Miguel for its public locality reference, without disclosing the precise vehicle position.

Scope of the conclusion

SEFAA marked the case resolved. This is an image-identification conclusion based on the recording circumstances and the visible reflections. It does not establish a flight path, a physical size or a distant craft hidden behind clouds.

UKPX read the complete investigation and reviewed its marked photographic figures. The original camera file was not independently tested. The October source release is preserved separately from the August photograph and September assessment dates.
