La Florida, August 2026: five recordings, Venus, a drone assessment and a camera flare

Recorded incidents: 20, 28 and 29 August 2026, La Florida, Santiago, Chile. SEFAA case 2284, reported 12 September; resolved 17 September and published 8 October 2026.

The reporter described recurring bright lights and changing colours over a period of months, including a nearer-looking episode. Nine supplied files covered more than one night. The inquiry did not treat every point in those recordings as the same object.

Selecting usable recordings

The 16-page investigation retained five files for analysis; four others had been processed through WhatsApp. Its metadata tables place the usable recordings on three August dates. The headline report date in September is therefore not the capture date of all the evidence.

The table and the later discussion reverse the timing relationship of two 28 August clips. UKPX retains the established date and broad evening interval without imposing a precise sequence unsupported by the internally inconsistent account.

Distinguishing the lights

In the 20 August material, SEFAA measured brief flashes recurring at approximately one-second intervals, compatible with aircraft signalling. It assessed the moving source as a small craft capable of hovering, of the drone/RPA type. No named aircraft or recovered drone was supplied as a definitive physical identification.

A second conspicuous point was matched with Venus. The planet also accounted for bright, comparatively stationary points in later recordings. Those comparisons used the scene direction and calculated sky positions rather than treating brightness or a circular camera image as a measure of proximity.

An additional optical effect

One 28 August sequence included a luminous feature whose apparent movement followed camera movement. The report’s geometric comparison attributed this to lens flare from a streetlight facing the camera. That effect belongs alongside the source’s final drone-and-Venus summary; omitting it would simplify several recorded lights into two physical objects.

SEFAA marked the case resolved and did not identify an aviation-risk condition in the studied material. The conclusion addresses those recordings, not every experience in the witness’s broader account.

UKPX read the full investigation and reviewed selected key figures. Original videos were not independently examined. The official October release remains linked, while the three recorded August nights are grouped into one canonical recurring-light case.
