Incident: September 2026, Garden of the Gods Wilderness area, southern Illinois, United States. Source: Illinois Bigfoot Research’s Hardin County page and the Sqwatchers’ field account. No independent species identification is established.
The published field log is unusually useful for preserving uncertainties during a group investigation. Alongside a footprint and possible animal sounds, it records observations one participant could not confirm, a team member making calls and equipment behaving unpredictably. Those details belong with the group’s interpretations.

A date conflict within the record
The source page heads the investigation 12 September 2026, and a later Sqwatchers account repeats that date. The recording labels begin 091926, apparently indicating 19 September. UKPX therefore uses September 2026 and does not select an exact day without further clarification.
The same page includes older and undated stories. They are not folded into this episode or reassigned to 2026 merely because they appear beside the new log.
Footprint and viewing conditions
The group reported a single clear impression near the trail, with other more eroded marks nearby. A participant’s size-ten shoe was used as a visual reference, producing an estimated length of thirteen to fourteen inches. The narrative says casting was undertaken. The record does not supply an independently authenticated trackway or establish which animal or person produced the impression.
Thermal and night-vision observations were mixed. At times one observer saw a feature and another could not confirm it, or confirmation occurred using the same instrument rather than a separate system. The log also describes equipment locking up or changing display modes. These circumstances prevent a straightforward claim of independent multiple-camera confirmation.
The lights and sounds
Some apparent movement involved a red chemical marker placed by a team member. The observers considered whether it was a moving light or a stationary marker viewed under changing conditions; one discussed motion parallax. Elsewhere, three howls were traced to another member of the group who had not announced his intention beforehand.
Other sounds remained unidentified in their account, including a sequence heard later in the evening. A subsequent frequency discussion compares the recording with alleged Sasquatch sounds, but matching broad frequency components does not establish the biological source. UKPX has not independently analysed the original audio, video or cast.
Preserving the field record
This is a documented volunteer investigation with reported anomalies, not verified evidence of an unknown species. The woodland context is supported by the Forest Service wilderness record. The geographical pin locates the Illinois wilderness broadly, protecting the distinction between an established public area and unverified exact observation sites.
Location and source record
Approximate Garden of the Gods Wilderness area reference in Illinois, not Colorado. The exact reported trail, footprint, campsite and observation positions are not established. Coordinates follow the checked geographical reference.
