Colorado Springs, 2023: the red-lit triangle and the parking-lot account

Incident: October 2023, between approximately 20:00 and 21:30, Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States. Exact day and workplace withheld. FBI interview: October 2025. Public release: 7 August 2026. UKPX historical reference added 6 November 2026.

A Colorado Springs witness described a black triangle emerging from an odd-looking patch of cloud, with a red light at each corner. He compared its size with the parking lot where he stood, recalled an abrupt bank and rapid departure, and later told the FBI that a call to his wife had sounded distorted.

The released record is FBI-UAP-D030, a three-page FD-302 recording an October 2025 interview about the reported October 2023 event. Its companion, FBI-UAP-D031, is an artistic reconstruction prepared in 2026. The two sources preserve one account, not independent photographic and witness evidence.

A clear night at work

The interviewee said he frequently watched military, commercial and civilian aircraft over Colorado Springs. On the night concerned, he was working and had walked over to a co-worker. Looking up at the clear sky, he noticed a particularly bright star. After watching it for five to ten seconds, movement caught his peripheral vision to the left.

What appeared next, he said, was a dark-grey cloud that looked distorted or pixelated. He described it as stationary. As he watched, a diffuse red light became visible at the front point of a black triangular shape coming out of the cloud towards the south or south-southeast. The shape widened until he could see an equilateral triangle with a red light in each corner.

The five-to-ten-second interval in the interview refers to his attention to the star before he noticed movement. It should not be repurposed as a measured duration for the entire triangle sighting. The released narrative gives no reliable total elapsed time for that sequence.

Size, height and the reported departure

The witness thought the object could have been as large as the parking lot, with a thickness equivalent to three to five storeys. Recalling its apparent size at arm’s length, he compared each red light with a fingernail. He estimated an altitude of 3,000–5,000 feet by comparison with small aircraft on training flights.

These are estimates made from appearance and later memory, not dimensions established by a survey or radar record. The altitude and physical-size judgments depend on one another; the file contains no independent distance measurement with which to fix either.

Initially, he compared its steady movement with a helicopter. It then seemed to accelerate almost instantly and change towards a more southerly or southwesterly direction. His estimate of a possible Mach 1 or Mach 2 speed is recorded as part of his account. No speed measurement or flight-track analysis accompanies it in the released document.

He also described waves around the object, likening them to the shimmer seen above a hot road. He heard no noise, noticed no unusual smell and could see no propulsion system. He thought it passed almost directly overhead, although more specific location references are redacted.

The bank and the phone call

As it moved away, the object appeared to bank sharply onto its left side while veering right, then return to level flight. The witness thought this was opposite to the way an ordinary aircraft would bank into a turn. He lost sight of it beyond a redacted feature to the south. Looking back towards its apparent starting point, he found the grey cloud had also disappeared.

About a minute afterwards, he called his wife. According to the interview, she said his voice sounded robotic, as though there were interference on the call. That is a reported impression from a telephone conversation. The released pages provide no network diagnostic record or other evidence connecting the call quality to the object.

The reference to a co-worker places another person near the beginning of the account, but the public file does not supply a separate statement from that person establishing what they saw. Likewise, the wife’s comment concerns the later call, not an observation of the triangle.

What the illustration represents

FBI-UAP-D031 shows a dark triangular form with glowing red corners above a night-time parking-lot scene. The official release description says the FBI created it in 2026 from the first-hand description as a visual aid for PURSUE. It is not an image recorded in October 2023.

The artwork conveys the reported layout of the lights and the parking-lot setting. Its depicted scale, background and perspective should not be treated as additional measured data. UKPX links it at the official source rather than assuming that the photographic background is available for unrestricted reuse.

A later interview, not an identification

The FBI interview took place roughly two years after the reported event. Its exact October 2025 day, the witness’s identity and much of the background information are redacted. The final page contains no unredacted substantive account. Those omissions remain gaps; they are not a basis for identifying the workplace or filling in the missing testimony.

The standard FD-302 footer states that the document contains neither recommendations nor conclusions of the FBI. This release records a witness’s description, including his interpretations of speed, cloud appearance and unusual banking. It does not supply a final identification, instrument data or a demonstrated explanation for the account.

Another October 2023 Colorado Springs account concerns a translucent-looking triangle seen from a porch. That report gives a later evening time, a brief four-second view and a different description of scale and lighting. The redacted dates and locations do not establish a relationship between them. They remain separately documented accounts, rather than corroboration of one event.
